Sunny Skies For Today, But Rip Current Risk Is Still Moderate

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ - Not a bad beach day, overall. So head on over to your favorite beach. It's almost August.

The National Weather Service is calling for mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 80s. Winds will be from the northwest at 10 miles per hour, becoming southwest in the afternoon. There's no rain in sight, at least for today, so there's no lightning threat.

But the rip current risk is still moderate, as it has been for most of the week. Be sure to check with your local beach patrol for trouble spots before heading into the water. Rip currents can occur anywhere, anytime. Always swim on a guarded beach and never swim alone or at night. Too many people have died in the ocean this summer. Don't add your name to the list.

Waves today will be around 3 feet, with southeastswells of 2 feet. The ocean water temperature will vary from beach to beach. The ultraviolet index is an 8, which the NWS considers very high, so bring your sunscreen.

High tide at Belmar arrived at 9:06 a.m. Low tide will roll in at 3:03 p.m., followed by another high tide at 9:15 p.m.
