Woman Dies After She Was Struck By SUV Driven Off-Duty Long Branch Cop: Prosecutor's Office

Stanhope resident Karen Borkowski, 60, was pronounced dead at the scene on Friday night, report says.

LONG BRANCH, NJ - A Stanhope woman was struck and killed Friday night Saturday when she was hit by a car driven by an off-duty city police officer, according to a report on app.com.

Detective Jake Pascucci, 28, was driving southbound on Ocean Boulevard when his 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee struck Karen Borkowski, 60. Borkowski was crossing the street near the intersection with Broadway at 10:15, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said.

The Prosecutor's Office's Serious Collision Analysis Response Team is investigating the crash, spokesman Charles Webster said in an e-mail.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Detective Eric Kerecman at 800-533-7443.

"Due to the fact that this accident involves a police officer from the Long Branch Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office is handling all aspects of this investigation and the Long Branch Police Department is not participating in the investigation," Webster said.
