Central's Metzler Wrestles To State Title Podium
Second consecutive year with a medal for Long Valley's 120-pounder.
For the second consecutive year, Shane Metzler is a New Jersey wrestling state medal winner.
Wrestling at 120 pounds in 2015-16, Metzler went undefeated in the regular season and swept his way through District 1 and Region 1 before he met his match in the NJSIAA state championship semifinals Saturday, March 5.
Metzler, the number two seed in his bracket, was pitted against the undefeated number one seed Brandon Cray. The two battled through three rounds and three overtime periods before Cray won 8-7, punching his ticket to the finals.

Metzler lost the third place match Sunday morning before winning his wrestleback round to finish the tournament in fifth place. He came in fourth place at 106 pounds in 2014-15.
Metzler is currently a junior and co-captain of the Wolfpack wrestling team.
