Puppies Ditched From Car Find New Homes, NJ Shelter Says

Some witnesses said the puppies were thrown from a moving car this weekend, according to the animal shelter.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Shelter representatives are sighing with relief after having to scramble to find homes for puppies who were dumped out of a car in Passaic County this weekend.

On Sunday, around 8 a.m., witnesses saw three puppies thrown from a moving car near School 3 at Paulison and Washington Avenues in Clifton, the Clifton Animal Shelter said.

Animal shelter representatives pleaded on social media for help, both in finding whoever was responsible for the drive-by drop-off and in finding a new home for the abandoned dogs.

“Witnesses report a white Jeep driven by a female ejecting the puppies and driving off,” the shelter posted. “These babies could have been killed. This is cruel, deliberate, and unacceptable.”

Clifton police told NJ.com that the only report it has received on the incident was that a woman exited a car, placed the puppies on the roadside, and drove off.

The shelter found two of the puppies, nicknamed "Jack" and "Frost," and a bystander took in a third near Harding Avenue, representatives said. The shelter is asking that the person who picked up the third puppy contact the animal shelter at 973-470-5936.

Additionally, anyone with a Ring camera who might have caught the incident near School 3 near 7th and Washington avenues, is asked to check the footage for the suspected white Jeep. The shelter is looking to identify the license plate.

The shelter’s two puppies were accepted into a foster home on Monday, one with “real potential to become their forever home,” according to representatives.

“That kind of outcome doesn’t happen without a lot of people caring, and we’re grateful for every single one of you,” a Clifton Animal Shelter post read. Thank you to everyone who called, messaged, shared, and offered help. The response has been overwhelming in the best way… Your support truly makes moments like this possible.”
