Farewell 2020: Long Valley Stories That Didn't Depress Us

LONG VALLEY, NJ — We are counting down the seconds until we can put this incredibly challenging year behind us. And while this may be the year we all want to forget, there are a few things that were too memorable to forget.

School Nurse Joins Coronavirus Fight

Long Valley Middle School's Kim Pinto went to work at the first field hospital open in NJ since the Civil War. Long Valley Middle School may have closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but school nurse Pinto was still caring for patients.

Back To School

Long Valley students returned to the classroom in-person. The end of August marked the return to in-person learning for Long Valley students, and it made a lot of people happy. The return to normalcy was a balm for many who missed their friends and their classrooms.

New Business Starts Up Amid COVID Crisis

Suddenly unemployed because of COVID-19, Lisa Rutigliano began carting healthy cakes around the Garden State. And a business was born. Rutigliano is not afraid to take risks. But the Bergen County native may not have taken the leap to open her healthy bakery without the rather unanticipated intervention of the coronavirus.

Washington Township Mayor Steps Up

"Mayors for Main Street" said too many towns are left "on the outside looking in." This included Washington Township Mayor Matt Murello, who championed small businesses in Long Valley through both word and deed.

This is obviously just a small slice of what made the local news in 2020, but it is also the kind of news that we want to remember.
