Furry Golfer Finds His Way On To Black Oak's Course

Maybe the black bear spotted on the 11th hole in Long Valley was looking for his ball.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. – The bear showed up on the links in Long Valley Tuesday, and we’re not talking about Jack Nicklaus.

Black Oak became Black Bear when a bounding bruin made himself known on the right side of the 11th hole Tuesday morning while a few players were trying to save par.

Black Oak Golf Club is located on Bartley Road and backs up to Chester Township, sprawling over hundreds of acres. The 11th hole, where the bruin was seen looking for his ball, is a par 4, 295-yarder.

β€œThe green is long and moderately terraced so even on the green you could face a long putt,” is how Black Oak describes the hole. Clearly the difficulty scared the bear away, who may have taken a mulligan on the hole.
