'Let's Go Zach:' Cucinella Rallies Around Young Volunteer

Long Valley student gains support for charitable 5K.

Fellow youngsters and the greater Long Valley community came out to support resident Zach Rice this past weekend as he organized a 5K to benefit ill children.

Rice, 10, aΒ Benedict A. CucinellaΒ student, teamed with the Goryeb Children's Hospital to present the "Action for Distraction" 5K in Morristown, with proceeds going toward gaming systems for kids at the hospital. Rice spent time at the hospital while dealing with complications from a diagnosis ofΒ avascular necrosis of the hip.

Rice was welcomed back to school with a huge ovation Friday when he performed inΒ Cucinella's talent show. Fellow student and show host Madison Kalmus noted how the "past two years have been pretty tough on him and his family" before encouraging the community to support his efforts during the "Action for Distraction."
