Long Valley Deacon, Former School Board Rep Dies At 81

Pat Van Orman moved to Long Valley in 1966.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. – In one capacity or another, E.B. β€œPat” Van Orman was always serving his neighbors in Long Valley.

The resident of half a century died after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 81.

Van Orman was a Marine reserve from 1959 until 1967. He married the love of his life, Helen Marie, in 1960, and the couple settled in Long Valley in 1966 to raise a family.

Van Orman worked for Allied Chemical Headquarters in Morristown as a Production Manager until 1988. He served on the Washington Township Board of Education from 1974 to 1986.

In May of 1997, Van Orman was ordained to Deacon and served the parishioners of Our Lady Of The Mountain Church in Long Valley until 2010 when he stepped down due to his illness. In 2009 he received the β€œVivere Christus Est” Medal for his ongoing dedication, commitment and service to God’s people.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Marie, three children, and nine grandchildren.

The viewing will be held on Monday, May 2, from 4-8 PM at Our Lady of the Mountain Church, Long Valley. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 3, at 10:45 AM with burial following in Our Lady of the Mountain Cemetery.
