Long Valley First Aid Squad Saves Hiker In Cataract Park
From a rescue drill to a live rescue, the squad shifted gears quickly.

LONG VALLEY, NJ - The Long Valley First Aid Squad Rescue Services was picking up from a morning rope rescue drill Sunday when they were dispatched by Morris County Communications Center for the hiker experiencing a medical emergency in Cataract Park.
While responding to the park incident, Long Valley First Aid Squad was dispatched to an additional call for a critical pediatric emergency Atlantic Air Ambulance was immediately requested, officials said.
EMS 2 diverted to handle the critical call while EMS 3, EMS 1, Rescue 1, Rescue 3 and Command responded to Cataract Park.
MCCC was able to provide GPS coordinates for the patient. Rescue Services members equipped with medical and rope rescue equipment and entered the park, locating the subject with the Washington Township Police Department after a few minutes, officials said.
Rescue Services members determined that the terrain was level enough to get Rescue 3 fairly close to the patient. Rescue 3 is a Polaris Ranger 6x6 with KIMTEK Corporation patient transport system.

After a quick assessment and re-hydration EMS and Rescue Services members assisted the patient to the awaiting R3 and transported back to the staging area, officials said.
