Michael Burton Autographed Jerseys, Football Raffle To Benefit Project Graduation
Long Valley native and Detroit Lions fullback has spent first offseason giving back to home town.
LONG VALLEY, N.J. β After spending two decades on the receiving end of support, Michael Burton is more than happy to give back.
The Long Valley native and starting fullback for the Detroit Lions has made his mark on his hometown during his first NFL offseason, meeting with students and encouraging youngsters to follow their dreams just as heβs done.
Now Burton and his high school alma mater have joined forces to help another great annual cause, Project Graduation.

Burton has lent his autograph to three pieces of football gear β a home jersey, an away jersey, and a football β all to be won via raffle for the high school event. Each ticket is $5 with all proceeds benefitting Project Graduation 2016.
The Project Graduation organizing committee didnβt have to pull the pro athleteβs arm to lend a hand, either.

βIt feels great to give back to the town that has given me so much,β Burton told Patch. βIβm really happy to do it and happy to help in any way I can. This community at the fan base has been here for me, not just now, but all growing up and playing sports in town.β
The West Morris Central grad who was part of the class of 2010 fondly remembers his Project Graduation as well.
βIt was a great night to spend with your friends and just to hang out and have a good time,β he said.
Burtonβs currently training at Parabolic in Montclair before heading back to Michigan in April to begin season two of his NFL career. Heβs certainly carving out time to make the most of his days back home, though.
Just last week Burton spoke with the Long Valley Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team.
βI told those guys to keep working and practicing and theyβll be able to do whatever they want,β he said. βI played on that team. Those guys are no different than me and Iβm no different than them; I really enjoy coming home and giving back to my home town. I look forward to doing more.β
Deadline for ticket sales is Feb. 26 and winners will be announced at 8 p.m. that day during the West Morris Central Dodgeball Tournament.
