LONG VALLEY, NJ — A Boy Scout from Washington Township achieved scouting's highest honor recently, and Mayor Matt Murello honored him for his service at a recent ceremony.

Washington Township officials presented a formal proclamation to Bryce Abramson, welcoming him into the rank of Eagle Scout. Abramson is a member of Long Valley Troop 236, Murello said.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank or achievement in the Boy Scouts of America's Scouts BSA program. Since its inception in 1911, approximately four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a rigorous review process, officials said.

To receive the rank, Scouts must plan, develop, and lead others in a service project that benefits any religious institution, school, or part of the local community.

Abramson's Eagle Scout project involved constructing a covered kiosk with a whiteboard and six benches for an outdoor classroom at Mount Olive Township's Sandshore Elementary School. The outdoor classroom was created when mask mandates were implemented at the school; however, the space has been used by the school since then.
