New Mayor Elected For Washington Township
The committee voted to elect a new mayor during their re-organization meeting this weekend.

WASHINGTON, NJ — Matthew Murello was elected as Washington Township's newest mayor at their annual reorganization meeting.
Murello takes the post over from Bill Roehrich, who will continue to serve as a councilman. Ken Short was also sworn in for another term.
Washington Township's mayor is voted on by elected committee members, and serves for a one-year term. Roehrich served as mayor since 2015; before that, he spent three terms as deputy mayor.

"I’d like to congratulate Committeemen Roehrich and Short on their re-election and thank Bill Roehrich for his four years of service as Mayor, as well as the rest of the committee for their service. I’d also like to also thank our township volunteers and township employees as well as the families of the volunteers and those of us on the Township Committee, especially my wife Kristine and my children Nick and Olivia. None of us could serve our community without your support and understanding," Murello said in his first mayor's update.
Some things Murello highlighted as priorities in 2019 were increasing engagement with the public, addressing part-time staffing shortages at town hall, and making sure residents are signed up for Rave Alerts now that Nixle is phased out.
