1 Killed In Long Valley Fire, Prosecutor Confirms

The fatal fire broke out late Monday night when temperatures were approaching zero.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — One person was killed in a late-night house fire in Long Valley Monday night, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp confirmed.

The fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. at a Pickle Road home on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Knapp said. Officials are not releasing the name of the person killed at this time, Knapp said.

An investigation into the fire remains ongoing, Knapp said. He did not say if the fire is considered suspicious or not.

Mayor Matt Murello said on Tuesday that one of the buildings on the site was totally destroyed, but other buildings were saved. "Our volunteer firefighters and first aid squad were out all night, with the WTPD, in temperatures approaching 0, and we are all thankful for their commitment to the Township," Murello said.
