LONG VALLEY, NJ β€” A small kitchen fire was extinguished in Long Valley Wednesday morning, firefighters said.

The fire happened around 8:15 a.m. inside of a garbage compactor, fire officials said. The fire was extinguished quickly, and a positive pressure fan was used to clear smoke from the home.

Two people were examined for smoke inhalation, and eight firefighters were rehabbed by the first aid squad.

Fairmount Fire, Long Valley Fire, and Schooleys Mt. Fire, the Washington Township Police Department, and the Long Valley Rescue Squad all responded to the scene. All first responders left by 10:30 a.m.
