Driver allegedly went through stop sign at busy intersection, police report.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. – Four people, including two children, were injured in a two-car crash in Long Valley last Thursday, police said.

Police and emergency medical responders received a call about a crash at the intersection of Old Farmers Road and Parker Road at 5:45 p.m. on May 5, and found two juveniles to be entrapped in a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, Lt. Doug Compton said.

Both children were freed from the car by members of the Long Valley Rescue Squad and Fairmount Fire Company, and were taken to Hackettstown Medical Center along with the driver, Sharon Smith, 60, of Lakewood, and the driver of the second vehicle, Compton said.

An investigation showed Smith was traveling south on Old Farmers Road when she allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection where the crash occurred, Compton said.

The second vehicle, a Chrysler Town and Country van, was unable to avoid Smith’s car and was struck by the Pontiac, Compton said.
