Union Schoolhouse Given County Historic Marker
Union Schoolhouse is on the state and national Register of Historic Places, and now also has a county marker.
LONG VALLEY, NJ β The Union Schoolhouse, located in Long Valley, was awarded a county preservation plaque by the Morris County Board Of Chosen Freeholders.
The Washington Township Historical Society accepted the plaque at a board meeting Wednesday night. The society was honored for their ongoing efforts to preserve the schoolhouse, which dates back to the mid-1830s.
Union Schoolhouse is already on the State and National Register of Historic Places. Located on Fairview Avenue, the German-masonry building was a school for its first 56 years, before being used as housing, a library, and a historical center.
