WATCH LIVE: Central's Metzler Wrestles For Shot At N.J. Gold

Junior co-captain squares off against state's top seed in 120-pound semifinal Saturday night.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. - Shane Metzler has already etched his name in the history books this season, becoming only the second West Morris Central wrestler to win back-to-back regional titles.

Now, the junior co-captain has a shot at not just school history, but state wrestling immortality.

After steamrolling his way through District 1 and Region 1 at 120 pounds, the number-two seed Metzler had a first round bye in the New Jersey State Wrestling Championships Friday night, then squared off against Jordan Robinson of Garfield, who he beat 5-3. Metzler then took down number 6-seed Edison Echevarria of Delsea by a score of 5-2 to take a spot in the semifinals and guarantee a top-4 finish.

The biggest challenge of Metzler's season awaits him at 5 p.m. Saturday, as he faces off against number one seed Brandon Cray, who, like Metzler, is undefeated this season and has a dozen pins to his record in 2015-16.
