WTPD Cracking Down On Unsafe Driving Around School Buses
Police are reminding residents to always stop for buses with flashing lights.
LONG VALLEY, NJ β Washington Township police are cracking down on unsafe driving around school buses, and will issue summonses to those who break the laws.
Police say they've seen an uptick in drivers trying to hurry around a bus with yellow lights on to avoid getting stuck behind a stopped school bus with the red stop lights on. Even with the yellow lights, drivers should stop behind the bus, not drive faster, police said.
"We want everyone to be safe, and do not want any of our children getting hurt. If you see a bus turn on its yellow lights, use caution and stop, not speed up. The seconds it takes to wait could save someoneβs life. Please pass this message on to people you know, young drivers, friends, and relatives. Education and awareness will prevent a tragedy," police said.
