Condoleezza Rice, Opening Day, Taste of Madison This Week

A look at the week ahead in the Rose City.

Taste of Madison: The is being held at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday. VIP hour starts at 6 p.m.

Condoleezza Rice: The former U.S. Secretary of State will appear at Drew University on Thursday as the school’s eighth Thomas H. Kean Visiting Lecturer, closing out the 2012-13 Drew Forum lecture series.

Rice, who served as the 66th Secretary of State, was Stanford University’s provost from 1993 to 1999 and is currently the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Graduate School of Business; the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution; and a professor of Political Science at Stanford University. She is a founding partner of RiceHadleyGates LLC.

The event begins at 8 p.m. in Drew’s Simon Forum and Athletic Center. Tickets are $32 plus handling and can be purchased through the Drew University Box Office by calling 973-408-3917. 'Madison, Methodism, and Global Outreach': The Madison Historical Society who will speak on Madison’s long-time relationship with the Methodist Church. Their presentation, entitled “Madison, Methodism, and Global Outreach” will take place at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Chase Room of the Madison Public Library, 38 Keep Street.  Light refreshments will be available.

Board of Education: The Madison Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Madison High School Library. A measure to approve a new math textbook for grades K-5—Math in Focus: Singapore Math. 2012-13: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt—is among the items on the meeting agenda.

Garage Sale: A townwide garage sale to benefit Union Beach is scheduled for Saturday.

Opening Day: The day begins with a pancake breakfast at the Madison Elks Club from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the annual parade at noon, and Opening Day Ceremonies at Dodge Field. Tee Ball and baseball games will be played in the afternoon.
