Door-To-Door Pet Census Will Take Place In Madison
To ensure that all pets are licensed and vaccinated, the Madison Health Department is conducting an animal census for the Madison community.
MADISON, NJ — The Madison Health Department is conducting an animal census for the Madison community to ensure that all pets are licensed and vaccinated against rabies, as required by the Borough code.
The census is vital for maintaining animal records, rabies control and animal population reports.
Canvassers, who will be equipped with Borough of Madison identification cards and wearing reflective vests, will be going door-to-door throughout the community over the next two months.

They will be visiting every residence that does not currently have a valid pet license. The individuals that will be performing this census are simply gathering the necessary information and have no control if a summons, or late fine will be issued for failure to register your pet(s). The health department will be working closely with apartment complex managers and leasing agencies that require access to the building.

Please note that if you are registered for the No Knock List, the canvassers are conducting municipal business and are exempt from the non-solicitation list (No Knock) Ordinance.
§ 59-3 License Required No person shall keep or harbor or suffer the keeping or harboring within the limits of the Borough of Madison any dog or cat of licensing age without first obtaining a license therefor to be issued by the Health Department of the Borough, upon application by the owner or some person on behalf of the owner and payment of the prescribed fee, and no person shall keep or harbor any dog or cat in the Borough except in compliance with the provisions for the control of animals contained in Title 4, Chapter 19, Sections 15.1 through 15.29 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey and any amendments thereof.
