The Dean Hopper New Scholars Conference asks: Was World War I worth it?

Drew University will be hosting a conference next month examining a variety of historical topics, including World Wars I and II.

The Dean Hopper New Scholars Conference, titled “History on Trial: Rethinking the Discipline, Rethinking the Past,” will feature historians from around the United States, United Kingdom and China. The conference will take place on June 5 and June 6.

The keynote speakers at the conference will include George Robb, history professor from William Paterson University, who will give a talk called “Was World War I Worth It?” at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and history professor from City College of New York, Adrienne Petty. Petty’s talk “Beyond 40 Acres and a Mule” will examine what happened to African Americans in the post-reconstruction United States, according to Drew University.

The Dean Hopper New Scholars Conference will be held in Mead Hall beginning at 1 p.m. on June 5 and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. on June 6. The cost of attendance to the two-day conference is $80, but visitors can opt to pay $30 to attend only a keynote speaker and dinner. Undergraduate students with identification may attend for $20.
