Grammy Nominated Musicians to Perform at Drew University
The widely acclaimed Orion String Quartet will perform at the Madison school this February.

Grammy nominated chamber musicians will perform at Drew University’s Concert Hall on Saturday, Feb. 7. The acclaimed Orion String Quartet will perform the works of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and Boccherini.
As part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center series in the Drew University’s Concert Hall at the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts, the Orion String Quartet will be joined by Tara Helen O’Connor, flute, and Ida Kavafian, violin and viola.
The Orion String Quartet offers diverse programs including classic work and contemporary composers. Its members include brothers Daniel and Todd Phillips, who share first chair violin equally, violist Steven Tenebom, and cellist Timothy Eddy. The quartet serves as Artists of the Chamber Music Society and Quartet-in-Residence at New York’s Mannes College of Music.

O’Connor is the winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and is a two-time Grammy nominee. She is a Wm. S. Haynes flute artist and regular participant in prominent music festivals, including the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Mainly Mozart, and Spoleto USA. Kavafian serves on the board of directors of the Curtis Institute and is the artistic director of the Music from Angel Fire festival. She also performs with the groups OPUS ONE and Trio Valtorna.
It is the eighth year the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center has partnered with Drew for its annual chamber music series, which takes place in the Concert Hall at the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts. The society’s connection to Drew began in 2006 and with its establishment, the town-and-gown ties have only deepened.

This years’ series will wrap up on March 28 with a performance of Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Brahms, at which the Concert Hall will celebrate its 10th anniversary
The performances begin at 8 p.m., with pre-concert conversations with the artists in the Concert Hall at the Dorothy Young Center for the Arts, on Drew’s Madison campus.
