H.S. Artists Paint Cafeteria Mural

Art students, Spiritree collaborate on piece.

The cafeteria recently got an impressive facelift in the form of a massive mural created by more than 100 high school art students in collaboration with two professional artists who were brought in for the project.

From April 16-27, The Arts Council of the Morris Area arranged for two professional artists to come to the school. The teaching artists, known as Spiritree, worked with students six hours a day, guiding them through the process of constructing such an ambitious group art project, the planning for which began back in December with student sketches based around the district mission statement of “Knowledge, Character and Inspiration.”

After combing through dozens of creative sketch ideas, the artists worked out a plan for implementing the sketches from the page onto the large cafeteria wall. The project was organized by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Rossi, District Supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts Stacy Snider, High School Principal Greg Robertson and Art teachers Shannon Harris and Susan Menk.
