The Dodger Offense Continues Their Explosive Streak in Semi-Final Victory

Inside the mind of Mazzocchi: The method behind Madison's scoring machine.

The Madison Dodgers Super Pee Wee football team proved once again that their dominance is no fluke, storming past the Newton Braves in the semifinal matchup with a commanding 35–6 victory.

Head Coach Peter Mazzocchi Jr., whose offensive ingenuity has fueled Madison’s high-powered season, continues to see the field with surgical clarity.

Under his leadership, the Dodgers have now outscored their opponents 270–31 this year, an astonishing feat that speaks to both precision and preparation.

Before kickoff, Mazzocchi gathered his team and delivered a message that set the tone for the afternoon:

“Trails of troubles. Roads of battles. Paths of victory. We shall walk.”

And walk they did, right into another statement win.

The Dodgers received the opening kickoff, and Michael DelVecchio wasted no time, returning it 10 yards with extra yardage tacked on thanks to a Newton facemask penalty. From the first snap, the offensive line anchored by Joey Kane, Connor Buckley, Jacob Meshki, Teddy Lynn, Zach Reed, Cooper Chaput, and Jacob Chase, took command of the trenches.

Will Jacobson opened the drive with a bruising 10-yard run, followed by DelVecchio pounding through the middle. Austin Atkinson then bounced to the outside, putting Madison deep in Braves territory.

From the 12-yard line, Jacobson followed his blockers up the gut for the first touchdown of the day. He capped the drive with his own kick.

Madison 8, Newton 0, just three minutes in.

On the ensuing kickoff, Cash Hanna sent shockwaves through the field with a thunderous hit on the returner, jolting the Braves back to reality. Moments later, Luca Scaravaglione read a Newton run attempt “easier than a Dr. Seuss book,” forcing and recovering a fumble to give Madison the ball right back.

The offense wasted no time. Jacobson ripped off another run, followed by a bone-rattling carry from DelVecchio. Mazzocchi dialed up an option play, and quarterback Nolan May pitched perfectly to Jacobson for a 10-yard gain. On the next snap, Jacobson bulldozed through two defenders for his second score of the game. Another successful kick and Madison leads 16-0.

Newton’s offense struggled to find any rhythm, facing relentless pursuit from Harrison Kean, John Healy, and the rest of the defensive front. Teddy Lynn crashed through for a backfield stop, forcing a Braves punt to end the quarter.

Back on offense, May showed why Mazzocchi trusts him as the field general. When his receivers were covered, he tucked the ball and ran for 12 tough yards. A short completion to DelVecchio moved the chains again, and the running back powered his way to the 4-yard line. On the next play, DelVecchio muscled through for another Dodger touchdown.

The extra point missed, but the damage was done. Madison led 22–0.

On Newton’s next drive, their short ground gains were snuffed out by DelVecchio and Jacobson. The Braves tried to pass, but the coverage from Declan Cooney and Will Jacobson proved airtight. A turnover on downs handed the ball back to the Dodgers.

Atkinson dashed for six yards, then Jacobson broke an outside run down to the Newton 11. May dropped back, looked off his short route, and found Atkinson in the back corner of the end zone for yet another Madison touchdown.

Michael Curry added the extra point with an explosive run up the middle. The halftime horn sounded with Madison leading 29–0.

Newton opened the second half with a brief spark, a short return before fumbling twice, the second recovered by Harrison Kean.

Back on offense, DelVecchio plowed through multiple defenders for 10 yards, and Curry followed with a pair of hard-nosed runs. Then, Jacobson took it outside for a 25-yard gain, just shy of the pylon, with a massive lead block from DelVecchio paving the way.

Coach Mazzocchi turned to the big man for the payoff. Cooper Chaput, known more for his backfield protection than his rushing, was handed the ball on the goal line, and he made the most of it. Chaput barreled through Newton’s defense, refusing to go down until he crossed the plane for a well-deserved touchdown.

The extra point missed, but Madison’s lead stretched to 35–0.

Newton finally found a bit of daylight when quarterback Emerson North connected with Nick Craig for a 45-yard touchdown late in the game. The extra point was no good, leaving the score at 35–6.

Newton attempted an onside kick, but Jacob Meshki pounced on it instantly, denying any comeback hopes.

With time winding down, Declan Cooney took a handoff and weaved through traffic before bouncing outside for a 30-yard gain. Joey Kane followed with a punishing inside run, and Curry capped the drive with another short burst up the middle.

May and the offense then took a knee to seal the win and punch their ticket to the championship.

Final Score: Madison 35 – Newton 6

After the game, Coach Mazzocchi praised his team’s complete effort:

“What makes this group special isn’t just the points or the stats, it’s the heart. Every lineman, every back, every defender shows up for each other. The offense fires because the line opens holes, and the defense thrives because they trust each other. I couldn’t be prouder of how hard these boys have worked all season. But we know we’re not done yet, the final game is what we’ve been building toward. One more step.”

The Dodgers now advance to the Super Pee Wee Championship, where they’ll face the High Point Wildcats, the same team they dismantled in their season opener.

This time, the stakes are higher, the pressure heavier, and the lights brighter. The Wildcats are looking for revenge and the Dodgers are chasing perfection.

If history is any indication, it’s a game you won’t want to miss.
