Madison Charters Buses to NY to Help Commuters

Madison is chartering buses to New York as an alternative to NJ Transit after after Superstorm Sandy disrupted train service.

The borough notified the Chathams, Harding and Florham Park about the buses so residents of those towns also could be notified of the service, Borough Administrator Ray Codey said.

The buses are scheduled to start taking passengers at 6 a.m. and then leave when they are full, or at 7 a.m. The buses are stationed at the Madison Train Station parking lot, on the Kings Road side.

"We will be providing this service  Monday through Friday (except on holidays) until the NJ Transit System is up and running," Madison announced on its website.

The round trip tickets are $20, and are sold on a first come first serve basis. The buses drop off at 34th Street and pick up there at 6 p.m.

Chatham also will be running bus service that will depart Chatham Borough train station at 7:30 a.m., the borough said.

Frances Boardman, who arranged the buses, said capacity is 165 seats with three buses, and said Wednesday's snow storm could delay the buses on Thursday.
