New Central Ave. School Principal Appointed

Thomas Liss currently is assistant principal at Madison Junior School.

The assistant principal at Madison Junior School will be the new principal at Central Avenue School next school year.

The Madison Board of Education approved the appointment of Thomas Liss to the Central Avenue principal position at its meeting Tuesday night.

Liss will replace Philip Kennedy, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Liss is scheduled to start the new job leading the elementary school of around 485 students on July 2.

According to his bio on the Madison Junior School website, Liss came to Madison from the Bernards Township School District, where he was an elementary school assistant principal and, before that, supervised the district's social studies, gifted and talented, and instructional support programs.

Previously, he taught at Frelinghuysen Middle School in the Morris School District for seven years.

Liss is married to a reading specialist, has two boys, likes camping and is a Jets season ticketholder, the bio says.
