Product Failure Potential Cause of Chef Loryn's Fire
Ongoing investigation now includes manufacturer and its experts.
An ongoing investigation into a fire at Chef Loryn's has revealed product failure as a potential cause.
Madison Fire Captain Ed Nunn said he could not go into further detail about the product, as the manufacturer will now conduct its own investigation to help determine a cause.
"They have the right to see it as is," Nunn said about the scene of the fire, which has not been cleaned up or repaired so investigators could and can conduct tests on an uncompromised site.

The fire, which occurred on March 27, was investigated by the owner's insurance company and its experts on March 29. On April 2, the building's insurance company and its experts investigated the fire scene. This upcoming Tuesday the manufacturer will have a chance to look at the scene. The Madison Fire Department, as per protocol, found the area of origin of the fire the same day they knocked it down.
"The first thing we do is find out if it is suspicious in nature," Nunn said. "Then, if it's not a crime, what is it?"

Nunn said the ongoing investigation will most likely be a long-term process.
A quick and aggressive interior attack on the afternoon of the fire prevented it from spreading. Firefighters ripped down walls in the business to make sure the fire was contained. There was no extension into adjacent businesses in the building.
The department was notified of the fire when a store owner from a next-door unit called saying something was burning. Police shut down the part of Main Street running past the restaurant, located in a building at 250 Main St. There were no injuries caused by the fire.
