Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Holding Canine Auditions
If you think your dog is made for the limelight, try bringing him or her to the Shakespeare Theatre's canine auditions.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will be holding canine auditions for the role of “The Dog” in its upcoming June production of “The Royal Family”.
“The Royal Family”, a Tony Award-winning American classic by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber, begins on Wednesday, May 27 and will continue through Sunday, June 21, with a possible extension through June 28, at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, 36 Madison Ave. in Madison.
The award-winning production, first performed in 1927, portrays the Cavendish family as they struggle to balance the demands of family life with the bonds of their artistic calling, the Theatre said.

The Theatre is seeking a small “exotic looking” dog; or two medium-sized dogs which are similar in appearance; or one large dog, to make a cameo appearance in each performance of “The Royal Family”, according to a report from NewJerseyState.com.
The Theatre would prefer dogs who reside in the Madison area and transportation to and from the theatre can be arranged. The canines will be led on stage on a leash, according to New Jersey Stage.

Canine candidates need to be well-behaved, and not disturbed by people, loud noises or bright lighting, the report said.
