Track And Field Teams Added To Athletics Program At Drew University

The teams will compete as club sports in the 2022-23 school year before joining the Landmark Conference as NCAA Division III varsity teams.

MADISON, NJ — For the upcoming academic year, Drew University will add men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams to its athletics program.

The four teams will compete as club sports in the 2022-23 academic year before becoming NCAA Division III varsity teams the following year in the Landmark Conference. Drew will now have 26 varsity sports with the addition of the four new programs.

“We are excited to offer additional competitive opportunities for future Rangers,” said Drew Director of Athletics Christa Racine. “The Landmark Conference is extremely competitive in track and field and we are looking forward to joining the other institutions in 2023-2024.”

Sean Robinson, the head coach of Drew's men's and women's cross country teams, has agreed to become the program's first track and field coach. Robinson joins the Rangers after a highly successful two-decade coaching career at Morris Hills High School. He was inducted into the New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015.

“I am grateful and humbled to be supported by the entire Drew University Athletics community and our Board of Trustees to attract high-caliber student-athletes that share our vision in the development of NCAA Division III track and field excellence,” said Robinson, who will enter his second season as the Rangers’ cross country coach in 2022.

Every year, Drew hosts a series of high-level winter high school meets in the Simon Forum, which will be the Rangers' indoor facility. The Rangers will have a 200-meter track and space for all field events in their indoor track and field facility.

Drew’s outdoor facility has yet to be determined.

“Drew University truly is a special place and already offers one of the few indoor track facilities in northern New Jersey to properly build and maintain a dynamic men’s and women’s track and field program," Robinson said.

Track and field is the most recent addition to the Rangers' athletics program.
