T-Rex, Downtown Concert, Ice Cream Social This Week

A dance party to benefit the American Cancer Society and the start of the Summer Seminar Series also on tap.

Here's a look at the week ahead in the Rose City.

Seminar Series Begins: Dr. Douglas Simon, professor emeritus of political science at Drew University, examines North Korea—a "highly reclusive, nuclear-armed country facing widespread deprivation under a totalitarian government led by a leader barely out of his twenties"—in the first lecture of the 29th Summer Seminar Series. The lecture is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Madison Public Library. The lectures are free and open to the public.

No Council Meeting:
The Monday, July 8, Madison Borough Council meeting has been canceled.

T-Rex: A 15-foot T-Rex from Field Station: Dinosaurs is touring New Jersey libraries and is scheduled to stop at the Madison Public Library at 4 p.m. Wednesday. A "Dinosaur Troubadour" will be on hand to teach library guests the "Dimetrodon Dance" and other numbers, and read Chris Gall’s "Dinotrux."

Farmers Market: The Madison Farmers Market on Green Village Road off Main Street is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Downtown Concert: Hear folk violinist David Rimelis from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday on the lawn of the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts as part of the free Downtown Concert Series. Picnicking welcome.
 
Zumba Charity Party: A fun night of Zumba to help raise money for the American Cancer Society is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Madison Community House. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and $12 for students with ID.

Ice Cream Social: The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts will host its popular Family Fun Day, Ice Cream Social from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Attendees can do crafts, get their faces painted and create their own ice cream sundaes with ice cream and toppings from McCool's Ice Cream Parlour (while supplies last). There also will be a variety of games inside the museum and outside on the lawn. Advanced registration recommended. Call 973-377-2982 ext. 12.
