School Make-Up Days Considered, Snow Days Lost to Sandy

With all of the Madison school district's three built-in snow days used after Superstorm Sandy, Madison school officials are reviewing the calendar for makeup days.

In the event of any further emergency closings, the calendar calls for students to have school on May 24, then using days from spring break in reverse order, from April 12 to 8.

An item on the Board of Education agenda for its Tuesday meeting called for adjusting the calendar to use May 24 as a makeup day as a last resort, because officials say important faculty training sessions are scheduled for that day, but that item was pulled.

The storm closed Madison schools for five days, but the district made up two of them by opening on days when schools were scheduled to be closed for the NJEA convention, which was canceled for the first time in 158 years because of the storm.
