$2.1 Million Home Bleachers Replacement Project In Mahwah Moving Ahead

A project to replace the football field's grandstand at Mahwah High School is moving forward.

MAHWAH, NJ — A $2.1 million project to replace the football field's home-side bleachers at Mahwah is moving forward, Superintendent Michael DeTuro said.

General contractor Wallkill Group, of Hamburg, was awarded the contract in late July as the apparent low bidder, according to project database Construction Journal.

Approved as part of the 2021-22 budget, the project is fully funded from the district's capital reserve account. An initial payment in the amount of $35,036 was approved at the Mahwah Board of Education's Sept. 14 meeting for project work.

Demolition of the existing grandstand, which was originally built in the 1960s, is expected after the fall 2022 sports season. Project construction is anticipated to start this winter and complete next spring, Superintendent DeTuro said.

The new grandstand and press box will be compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and allow for the use of space underneath for storage units, DeTuro said.
