MAHWAH, NJ — An important part of Mahwah's history will be restored thanks to $50,000 raised by the community and a matching donation from the DeSilva family and Liberty Family of Dealerships, the Mahwah Historic Preservation Commission said.

A "Save Our Caboose" campaign to fund repairs and a pavilion for the Erie Railroad caboose 04940, the rear end of a freight spur commissioned in 1929, set and met the fundraising goal, which will be matched by the family-owned auto dealer group.

"Thank you to (the DeSilva family) for making this leadership gift and inspiring others to give," the preservation commission said.
