Mahwah Preps for Senate Special Election
Voters can register now for the primary in Mahwah.

Despite some controversy over Governor Chris Christie’s decision to hold a special election to fill the state’s Senate seat vacated by the recent death of Frank Lautenberg, Mahwah is preparing for the special election.
The township released a notice last week indicated that residents can now register for the special election's primary, which is scheduled for August 13.
The township clerk’s office will be accepting new voter registrations for the primary through July 23.

On the 23, the clerk’s office will be open extended hours to accommodate voters – from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The election in question has already had a rocky start. After the Supreme Court upheld Christie’s decision to hold it, county Freeholder boards – including Bergen’s – are filing complaints in an effort to ensure that the state will reimburse them before the end of the year for the cost of holding the elections.
