NJ Transit Train Hits Car In Bergen County, Causing Delays

Some trains to Rockland, Bergen and Hudson counties are delayed after a crash between a train and car, NJ Transit said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — NJ Transit was reporting delays during the Tuesday evening rush after a train struck a car in Bergen County, a spokesperson said.

At approximately 2:44 p.m., Pascack Valley Line train 1617 — which departed Hoboken at 1:48 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Montvale at 2:44 p.m. — struck a car, said NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith.

The crash happened at East Grand Avenue next to Montvale Station, he said.

There were no injuries to the approximately 30 passengers or crew on board, he said. The driver of the vehicle also was uninjured, he said.

Train riders were transferred to a bus.

The Pascack Valley train scheduled to arrive in Spring Valley, N.Y. at 3:04 p.m. was canceled. Trains scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 4:10 and 5:10 were delayed by more than 35 minutes due to the backkup, according to transit alerts. A 5:15 train to Spring Valley was also delayed.

NJ Transit police were still on the scene after 4:30 investigating, Smith said.
