‘Major Delays’ Expected with Upcoming Route 202 Roadwork

Police announced that traffic will be closed down on the busy roadway for a week after Fourth of July weekend.

In the midst of several other road improvement projects happening in the township this summer, the Mahwah Police Department announced Wednesday another road closure happening in July.

From about 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday from Monday, July 8 through July 15 a county milling and paving project on Route 202 will shut the busy roadway to through traffic.

According to a release from the MPD, 202 from Darlington Avenue and Bear Swamp Road will be shut to all but local traffic. Police are anticipating “major delays” in the area throughout the construction period, the release announced.

Between Darlington Avenue and Bear Swamp Road

Anticipated Traffic Impacts: Major impacts anticipated with traffic flow during the following times:

7:30 AM to 5:00 PM (Approximately)

Ramapo Valley Road (Route 202)

Limited local access only between Darlington Avenue and Bear Swamp Road

Description of New Traffic Pattern: The affected roadway will be open to Local Traffic Only. Plan alternate routes. Expect Major Delays.

Detour: Darlington Avenue to Campgaw Road to Pulis Avenue to Franklin Avenue

  • Ramapo College of NJ
  • Bergen County Parks (Darlington County Park, Ramapo Reservation)
  • Houses of Worship (Immaculate Conception Church)
  • Sports Facilities (Continental Soldiers Field)
