MAHWAH, NJ — Ramapo College of New Jersey has been named one of the top public universities in the North, according to U.S. News & World Report 2022-23 Best Colleges rankings.

Ramapo College ranked eighth of 63 in the region among public institutions and is one of only two in the state in the top 10. It also tied with four schools for the No. 28 ranking among all 181 schools in the same region.

Founded in 1969, Ramapo has 5,145 undergraduate students enrolled at the suburban, 300-acre college, as of fall 2021. It is a liberal arts college with about 40 programs in five schools for undergraduates, according to U.S. News.

“We recognize that many prospective students and their families rely on rankings reports to narrow their college searches and, to that end, the findings affirm Ramapo’s superior graduation and retention rates as well as the social mobility of our graduates,” college President Cindy Jebb said in a statement.

Ramapo was also recognized for its participation in federal initiatives helping veterans and active-duty service members pay for degrees, placing 13th for Best Colleges for Veterans, U.S. News said.
