Report: Mahwah Man in SWAT Standoff to be Charged with Burglary, Weapons Possession

Man was barricaded in his condo unit for seven hours Tuesday while cops worked to get him out, police said.

A Mahwah man who prompted a seven-hour SWAT Team standoff at his condo complex Tuesday will face burglary and weapons charges related to the incident, NorthJersey.com reported.

According to the report, Maksim Burakhovich, 27, will be charged with third-degree weapons possession, burglary, criminal mischief, and transmitting a false report. The complaints against Burakhovich have been signed, and will likely be served once he is released from Bergen Regional Medical Center, where he was transported after the incident, the report said.

Once served, Burakhovich will be released on his own recognizance pending a court date, the report said.

Police responded to a Society Hill condo unit on Juniper Way at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, after neighbors reported a gas masked tacked to the man's front door. Cops also found a chemical engineering degree, a plastic bag filled with bullets and a flash suppressor rifle attachment, and a note that warned not to come in because “chemo bio fire cannot be subdued,” attached to the outside of the front door, police said.

After a seven-hour standoff during which the man barricaded himself in the home, police said he was found in a neighboring condo unit after seemingly climbing through an attic and lowering himself into the unit. Police found him sitting naked in the home's living room, cops said.
