Shake Shack And Trader Joe's Applied To Open In This Bergen County Town
A Bergen County town will hear applications next month on four new stores, including Trader Joe's. Residents have questions.
BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A popular restaurant chain and grocery store have applied to open in a shopping center in Bergen County, the town's mayor said this week.
Trader Joe's and Shake Shack have applied to open in Montvale, and their applications are set to be heard on Dec. 2, said Mayor Mike Ghassali.
In addition, restaurants Honeygrow and CAVA will also have their applications heard.

The stores would open at the Chestnut Ridge Shopping Center on Chestnut Ridge Road.
"The applications for Trader Joe’s, Shake Shack, CAVA and Honeygrow will be heard on Tuesday December 2nd at the Planning Board meeting," Ghassali said Tuesday. "I will post an update after the hearing. If you have an interest in these applications, feel free to attend the meeting on the 2nd."

Residents responded on Facebook with a number of concerns, including asking whether the existing Fresh Market grocery store would stay or go.
"Access to and from Woodmont Drive would have to be addressed, too residential to take on all that traffic from Chestnut Ridge," said one commenter.
Meanwhile, residents across the state line in a Rockland County group seemed a bit jealous, asking why similar stores couldn't come to Clarkstown.
The Planning Board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. See more details here.
