Counterfeit Bills Used To Pay For Goods At Manalapan Wegmans

Manalapan police report two instances in which counterfeit money was used to buy merchandise at Wegmans on Route 9.

MANALAPAN, NJ — The Wegmans Food Market saw two instances recently in which counterfeit money was used to pay for purchases.

In its weekly report, Manalapan police reported two incidents of fraud using counterfeit money at the store:

On Jan. 19, employees at Wegmans, 55 Route 9 in Manalapan, said someone used a counterfeit $50 bill to purchase merchandise. Then on Jan. 21, employees there reported someone passed a fake $100 bill. Patrol officers Jean Marie Kaminski and Matthew Schwartz handled the reports.

Other incidents in the township also were reported:

  • Jan. 21: Employees of the Target department store, 55 Route 9 in Manalapan, reported that two unknown persons shoplifted an unspecified amount of merchandise. Patrolman Matthew Schwartz handled the report.
  • Jan. 21: A Manalapan resident, 65, reported that an acquaintance unlawfully withdrew $10,000 from their bank account. Patrolman Matthew Parke handled the report.
  • Jan. 19: A Manalapan resident, 45, reported to police that an unknown person used a $10,800 fraudulent cashier’s check to purchase a watch. Patrol Officer Jean Marie Kaminski handled the report.
  • Jan. 17: A Freehold resident, 49, told police that a former employee fraudulently used a company credit card in the amount of $60. Patrolman Brandon Rodrigues handled the report.

All matters are pending investigation.
