MANALAPAN, NJ — Fall leaf collection is scheduled to begin on Nov. 4 in Manalapan.

For the upcoming collection, Manalapan is asking residents to place their leaves in brown paper biodegradable compost bags so the bags decompose at the same rate as the leaves inside them.

According to officials, using these bags will help prevent loose leaves from escaping and clogging the drainage basins, which can result in flooding. These guidelines are in compliance with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection’s Stormwater Management Guidelines.

Leaves not contained in biodegradable bags will not be collected, officials said. The bags can be purchased from local retailers.

Once leaf collection begins, officials said it will continue each Monday throughout November and December.

“Please place bagged leaves at the curb on Sunday night, not in the street, to ensure you will not miss any of the collections,” officials said.

In addition to leaves, brush and tree limbs are also collected by the garbage company on a year-round basis.

Guidelines for brush and tree limb collection are as follows:

  • Tied securely in bundles
  • 4-foot maximum length
  • 50 pounds maximum weight
  • 2 bundles maximum for each collection

Residents also have the option to take their leaves to the Recycling Center themselves, however, the leaves must be in brown paper biodegradable bags for drop off.

The Manalapan Recycling Center is located at the Public Works Yard (207 Route 55, Freehold Road) and is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be no trash/bulk collection on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28), officials said. For those who have a Thursday collection day, your garbage will be collected on Nov. 30.
