Local Girl Scout Troop Earns Bronze Award for Community Garden

Girl Scout Troop 1798 from Manalapan earned the Bronze Award for their community garden project.

The members of Girl Scouts of Troop 1798 in Manalapan earned the Bronze Award this summer for creating and maintaining an organic garden. They donated all of the food from the garden to the local Samaritan Center.

The girls, all going into 5th year, grew tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers and basil. They grew the vegetables from organic seeds, learned how to make compost by creating wormeries, released 1500 ladybugs to control pests naturally and learned how to maintain the garden on a daily basis. Land for the garden was generously donated by the Stockel family on their Happy Day Farm property.

Troop Leaders Betty Pylarinos and Stephanie Forton are extremely proud of all of the girl’s efforts. The girls in the troop are Samantha Pylarinos and Trinity Stockel from Clark Mills elementary, Sofia Forton, Samantha Lonseth, Angelina Rodriguez, Natalia Korzemba, Katrine Birkeland and Chloe Anderson from Lafayette Mills Elementary and Rosemary Wolffe from Milford Brook Elementary.
