Manalapan Recognized By State As Town That Values Veterans

​Manalapan Township will receive the award at the upcoming Veterans Day ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial in Holmdel on Nov. 11.

MANALAPAN, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs is recognizing Manalapan as a town that values their veterans.

“We are honored and proud to accept this award, and we will continue to support those brave men and women who answered the call to defend our great nation,” Mayor Jack McNaboe said in a statement.

Manalapan Township will receive the award at the upcoming Veterans Day ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial in Holmdel on Nov. 11.

The New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran Affairs recognizes towns annually for their efforts to support veterans. So far this year 15 towns, five counties, two businesses and five academic institutions have been recognized.

The award is given out based on the number of programs and services the town makes available for their veterans, using a point system.

For example, listing a veteran-owned business on municipal websites is worth 10 points and allocating parking spots for Purple Heart recipients and veterans is worth 15 points. When a town reaches 145 points, it can apply for the award.

The Manalapan Veterans Committee meets monthly and they have coordinated many events over the years, from PTSD workshops to distributing quilts of valor.

The township is also putting together a Walk of Honor outside of Town Hall ahead of Veteran's Day. Residents can buy an engraved paver to honor someone who served in the military.
