Police: Van Flees Hit-and-Run Crash, Overturns in Second Crash Soon After

The driver was charged with motor vehicle summonses for both crashes, police said.

A man involved in a motor vehicle hit-and-run crash in Manalapan got involved in another crash that caused his van to overturn shortly after, according to Manalapan police.

Officers responded to Route 9 South near Taylor Mills Road for the reported hit-and-run at around 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 4. Shortly after, police were called to Taylor Mills Road and Princeton Drive for a report of a car crash that resulted in an overturned vehicle.

A police investigation revealed that the 1999 Dodge Minivan that overturned was the car that was involved in the prior hit-and-run accident. The van's driver, identified as Elman Aliev, 37, of Michigan, was transported to Jersey Shore Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to police. Aliev was charged with multiple motor vehicle summonses relating to both car crashes and the case is pending court, police said.
