MANASQUAN – Two bars have always been there for people in Manasquan throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Irish Rail, a tiny Manasquan establishment, served an "amazing burger during COVID lockdown," and they still did virtual trivia every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., said customer Linda Turano.

Then there's Leggetts, where customer Bill Morris said the staff "work very hard and are excellent to the customers."

"The atmosphere is also excellent. No matter what your age is, you can feel comfortable in Leggetts," he said. "You will always get the best food, drinks and beverages at Leggetts.

The Irish Rail and Leggetts were among several establishments nominated for Patch's "Business of the Year" in Manasquan as many businesses continue to battle through the coronavirus pandemic.

But it was these businesses, the customers say, that also came through for others in need – even as they were struggling themselves.

At the Irish Rail, the trivia was hosted by "the witty and personable Stephen O’Malley," said Turano.

"It was a bright moment every week that we enjoyed from home in Florida from April to July, and from mid-July to September when we returned to New Jersey," she said.

Patch readers nominated a Local Businesses of the Year. The local businesses included retail stores, restaurants, hardware shops, dry cleaners, plumbers, car mechanics, salons and more.

Patch will feature nominated businesses in December.
