Beach Revenue in Manasquan Down From Last Year

According to a borough official, last year's numbers were an "anomaly" because of COVID, plus fewer daily badges were purchased this year.

MANASQUAN, NJ – The borough of Manasquan brought in a little more $500,000 less in beach revenue this summer than last year.

According to statistics from the borough, Manasquan’s beach revenue this summer was $2,504,790, down from the summer 2020 total of $3,004,038.50.

The reason for the decrease in revenue, according to Amy Spera, the borough’s deputy business administrator, was fewer daily badges sold this summer compared to last summer, which Spera referred to as an anomaly because of COVID. The weather also played a role in the decrease of revenue, according to Spera.

“Sales were much higher in 2020 because of COVID. But there are two other reasons that can affect specifically daily badge sales,” Spera said.

“One reason is weather-related. I believe we had over 15 days of inclement weather this summer, which in turn drops the number of daily badges sold. The second reason dailies will be less is because we are selling more seasonal badges than a normal year.”

According to the borough’s data, only $432,820 in daily badges were sold this summer compared to last year’s total of $584,830.

Below is a complete comparison of last year’s numbers. Due to no daily parking being allowed at Sea Watch Beach, just for residents with a season pass, the money from those passes went into the tally for the standard parking pass. The first two numbers are from last year; the other numbers are from this year.
