One Case of MRSA Found At Wall Township School

Additional cleaning crews were scheduled at Central School Tuesday night after the district following the discovery of one identified case of MRSA, school officials said.

In a letter sent home Tuesday to parents, Interim Superintendent Stephanie Bilenker said the district is taking extra precautions in light of the discovery.

MRSA is the acronym for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, a drug-resistant bacteria easily communicable though usually not harmful unless there is a break in the skin, Bilenker said in the letter.

"We are going above and beyond our normal cleaning and disinfecting routine," Bilenker said in the letter. "Starting Tuesday night, additional custodial staff will be assigned to the Central School."

A heavy-duty cleaner is being used to sanitize the school. All things that students normally touch, such as door handles, railings, desks, chairs, tables and lockers were to be sanitized. The bathrooms and nurse's office, identified as high risk areas, were to receive added attention, the letter says.

"I am confident that these proactive measures will be a profound help in preventing further occurrences of MRSA in our district," Bilenker said in the letter.
