WHITING, NJ - Six people were displaced after a weekend fire damaged several homes in the Whiting section of Manchester Township Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The blaze was first reported shortly after 4 p.m. at The Venue adult community development on Woodside Lane, the Whiting Fire Company said in a statement.

At the scene, fire officials found a “fully-involved” residential structure fire that spread to a second home adjacent to the original fire, officials said.

Due to the fire’s size and number of structures involved/exposed, a third alarm was struck to trigger mutual aid assistance.

“As conditions deteriorated, an evacuation order was deemed necessary for interior personnel,” fire officials said. “Operations were shifted to an aerial approach with our mutual aid ladder units arriving on scene.”
