Body In 'Advanced Decomposition' Found In Manchester Wildlife Area

Authorities are investigating the death of the person, identified only as a man.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Authorities are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in a state wildlife area in Manchester on Saturday, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.

The man's identity has not been released. His body was found "in an advanced state of decomposition" in the Greenwood Wildlife Management Area off Pasadena Road, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Reports of the investigation surfaced on social media Saturday afternoon. Authorities did not say what time they were notified or by whom.

"We are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this death and the discovery of this deceased male’s body," Billhimer said.

He said there is no known danger to the public at this time and said authorities will release more information as the investigation unfolds.

Investigators from the prosecutor's office Major Crime Unit, the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Bureau and Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Manchester Township police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the New Jersey Conservation Police Department responded.
