Manchester Township Elections

Manchester Township Mayor and Council

Manchester Township has one-year unexpired terms for mayor and the township council on the ballot. Those races are both uncontested, with Mayor Joseph Hankins seeking election to the remainder of the term of Robert Arace, who left the seat to be an Ocean County commissioner. Hankins' seat on the council, meanwhile, is being sought by Sandra L. Gravatt-Drake.

Manchester Township Board of Education

There are two seats up for election on the Manchester Township Board of Education. The seats are three-year terms on the board, which has eight members including a representative of Lakehurst.

Gayle Mount and Fay Weinstein, the incumbents, are running on the slogan Excellence and Equity.

Brian Guzman and Justine Beltran are running on the slogan Manchester Kids First.

Mount, who currently serves as the board's president, was first elected in 2019. She is a special education teacher in Brick Township and her children attend Manchester schools.

Weinstein was elected to the board in 2022 via a write-in vote to fill a seat that was being vacated. She was a school librarian before leaving education to raise her children.

Guzman is a police officer in the Lakewood Township Police Department and he and his wife have two children.

Beltran is a nurse and she and her husband have three children.

Mount and Weinstein have been endorsed by Manchester Township Education Association, the district's teachers union.

The district has faced financial challenges due to state aid cuts under S2. It also will have the challenge of paying former superintendent John Berenato nearly $500,000 in back salary after the district was forced to rehire him in a ruling by the state commissioner of education, Kevin Dehmer. A state judge ruled Manchester had violated tenure laws when it fired Berenato in November 2023.
